As all drivers of all classes seemed to be worn out “Crazy Martin” decided to schedule a day of rest with some extra highlights: The pro class drivers were allowed to take on the expert class track, the experts were allowed to check out the amateur tracks and while we could give it a go on the Quad track the Quad teams occupied themselves with doing service tasks. An easy day for a change as the track offered some nice sections and we were able to travel for 200 KM without having to strain ourselves. The most exerting thing was that we had to pull out Liz’ motorbike from a 2 m deep ditch where she had “parked” it. But with the help of another team and two locals we’ve managed. At least an opportunity to try out all of our lashing straps.

In Baile Herculane the paddock was situated in the middle of a fun fair ground. So everybody still having some energy to get rid off jumped onto the bumper cars directly located adjacent the Romanian driver’s KTM service tent. Today’s start was scheduled to happen in the middle of the night – at 6 a.m. Fortunately, it was delayed so we only had to hit the track at 6:26 a.m. After the Liaison section we enjoyed the spectacular view over hills, paths and hill tops when the sun came up. However, the only ones to be able to enjoy breakfast at this time have been some horses feeding out in the open. We had to go and try our first 100 KM of EnduroMania land – great tracks along the summit and through the woods. Alongside some the old railway tracks of Plopu Liz decided to let her and her bike have a bath. So while she had to continue with clothes all pouring wet I had only hit the water up to my knees. After having soaked my boots the whole day I tonight experienced that, at the end of this day, my feet actually look like some frog’s feet – YUK! The next morning the wet grass on the track proved to be extra slippery so I managed to get bucked off twice. Back wheel “aligning” with front wheel and off you go face down some slope. Last time that happened I was snowboarding. Tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. we will be off for the last 150 KM of the rally. Back to Sibiu.

They told us it would not be too strenuous. Let’s wait and see. Anyhow, we are not allowed to go on the Quad track so we won’t fall asleep on the bike. So far they’ve assured us every evening on the Rider’s Meeting that the next day would be an easy ride. I wonder why we all feel so tired then …
